The pair of suspected bank robbers whose apprehension Thursday led to a four-hour standoff have been identified as Patrick A. McCuaig, 27, and Jessica Garrett, 24, according to Steve Davis, spokesman for the Lakewood Police Department.

McCuaig was arrested Thursday morning after police spotted a car believed to have been used as the getaway vehicle in at least two Denver-area bank robberies.

The car was hitched to a motor home parked about 25 yards off of Kipling Street at 20th Avenue in Lakewood.

Garrett barricaded herself in the motorhome and sustained a nonlife threatening gunshot wound when she pointed a weapon at police through a window of the motorhome and police fired at her, said Davis.

Several law-enforcement agencies — including the FBI, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and dozens of police from Denver and Lakewood — converged on the scene.

During the standoff, police brought in a robot and a large military-style half-track, which they stationed in clear view of the motorhome from which Garrett was talking to negotiators by phone.

Garrett, who was bleeding from one of her shoulders, eventually came out of the motorhome and was handcuffed by officers. Three police officers escorted Garrett to an ambulance at the scene. Under police escort, the ambulance took Garrett to the hospital.

Davis said that both bank-robbery suspects face multiple charges, including felony menacing and second-degree assault on a peace officer.

During the standoff, Davis described Garrett as “very distraught.” He said law-enforcement agencies were preparing to enter the motorhome about the time she surrendered. They had planned to use teargas to force the woman out.

Davis said the couple were being sought by the multi-jurisdictional Safe Streets Task Force, which targets career criminals.

Because detectives and the FBI will be conducting photo lineups, no pictures of the suspects are being released.
