“It all happened really fast,” Cameron Browne said.

A couple of Thursdays ago, the senior lineman at Bear Creek High School in Lakewood was telephoned by Princeton athletic officials, who wanted him on an airplane the next day.

Browne complied, was wowed by just about everything he saw, and recently agreed to become a Tiger in the Ivy League.

“I loved it,” Browne said.

Selected as Class 5A all-Jefferson County and All-Colorado by The Denver Post, Browne, who played offense and defense for the Bears, has been told he will be used on offense.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pounder has played tackle and guard, and being at center in New Jersey isn’t out of the question.

A rare three-sport athlete in big schools, Browne, whose father, Jerry, is a Bears assistant, also plays basketball and is a weight-thrower in track and field.

In the top 5 percent academically of the Bears’ senior class, Browne has a 3.9 grade-point average (and scored 29 of a possible 36 on the ACT) and is student body president. He will enroll with an undeclared major, but his mind is running with opportunity as well as relief.

“Definitely,” he said. “It’s out of the way and a lot of the pressure has been taken off. I’m excited.”
