Traffic speeds headed up into the mountains are slow today not only because of the icy roads but because so many skiers recognize good skiing conditions.

“We’re seeing a lot of traffic with folks going up to go skiing,” said Mike Murray, Sspokesman for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The mountains got very little new snow last night but it was getting blown onto highways as wind gusts reached 70 mph, according to Murray.

In the Denver metro area, temperatures were expected to shoot up near 60 degrees today and tomorrow, said Kyle Fredin, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

The next chance for snow in the metro area is Monday, but it is more likely no snow will fall.

In the north and central mountains, 3 to 6 inches of snow could fall within the next few days, and snow is expected every day through next weekend, Fredin said.

“They will see some snow but nothing major at this time,” he said.
