One man was killed today when a 2003 blue Nissan Murano ran off U.S. 6 into Clear Creek west of Golden.
The Colorado State Patrol said the Nissan was traveling east when it left the roadway, crashed down a steep embankment and then rolled onto its top in the creek.
Trooper Ryan Sullivan, a patrol spokesman, said the Nissan was partially submerged when it came to rest.
Authorities, including the Golden Fire Department, responded to the scene.
The crash and subsequent investigation closed the highway for more than three hours.
Although troopers were notified of the crash about 7:30 a.m., Sullivan said the cause and the time of the crash remain under investigation.
He said it was unknown whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
