Man, 20, arrested in hit-and-run death of teenager

COLORADO SPRINGS — A 20-year-old man has been arrested for investigation of first-degree vehicular homicide after he allegedly struck and killed 14-year-old Graham Johnson and then fled early Saturday morning.

Michael E. Gibbs was driving rapidly west on the 2800 block of Orion Drive when he lost control of his 2004 Pontiac GTO on a curve and struck Johnson, who was standing with four friends off the road, police said.

The car hit Johnson and threw him into some landscaping timbers, a police report indicated.

Johnson, who lived in the neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.

Officers followed a trail of fluid left by the car to a home at 815 Tyco Court, where they found the car with extensive damage and arrested Gibbs.

Police continue bank-theft probe

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Officials say the investigation into the alleged theft of $1.2 million from the Alpine Bank is continuing and could be prolonged.

Two bank tellers were arrested Friday for allegedly stealing $1.2 million in a span of slightly more than two years.

Capt. Joel Rae of the Steamboat Springs Police Department identified the women as Terri Dawn Moody Fatka and Pamela Jean Williams, both 41.

Rae said the women had been tellers at Alpine Bank until the last week of December.

The thefts spanned a period from mid-2004 until December 2007.

Both women have been charged with four felony counts by Kerry St. James, assistant district attorney in the 14th Judicial District.

2 arrested in triple shooting

AURORA — Aurora police have arrested two men in the shootings of three people early Saturday.

Witnesses say shots were fired after a fight outside a restaurant. Police say three people who were shot and a fourth person who suffered blunt force trauma were taken to a hospital.

The two people who were arrested were among five people detained after the shooting in the parking lot of the Real De Minas Mexican Grill at East Colfax Avenue and Kingston Street after a large fight broke out at 3:15 a.m.

Parish manager charged in theft

PUEBLO — The former business manager of a Roman Catholic parish has been charged with stealing $64,000.

The Chieftain newspaper identified the woman as Stephanie Annemarie Mizer, 34. The paper said she used a credit card given to her for personal expenses.

She worked at Our Lady of the Assumption Church until May.

She is free on $20,000 bond.

Firefighters discover male body in house blaze

CLIFTON — Firefighters responding to a house fire Friday night discovered a man’s body.

Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters with the Clifton Fire Protection District responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. to a home on fire at 3232 D ¼ Road.

Firefighters fought the blaze for about 30 minutes before discovering the body.

The cause of the fire was unknown but investigators think it may have been arson.

The home is owned by Earnest R. Brown.
