BOULDER, Colo.—Chaundra Sewell scored 12 points and Broomfield used stellar defense Friday to lead Broomfield to its second straight Class 4A state championship with a 50-34 victory over Silver Creek at the Coors Events Center.
Mariah Metoyer, who will play at the University of Denver next year, scored 11 points and Anna Prins added 10 for Broomfield (27-1), which lost its only game this year to Silver Creek on Feb. 1.
Jessie Jones led Silver Creek (25-3) with a game-best 17 points.
Broomfield used its man-coverage to consistently disrupt the Raptors offense.
The Eagles also held Colorado State recruit Meghan Heimstra in check, limiting her to 7 points, well below her 15.1 average.
Broomfield, which shot only 33 percent from the field, took advantage of 23 Silver Creek turnovers, scoring 27 points off the miscues.
Silver Creek, which suffered its three losses this year to Northern League rival Broomfield, shot 28 percent, hitting 12 of 43 shots in the game. The Raptors, appearing in their first ever state title game, managed just nine points off 16 Broomfield turnovers.
Leading 26-19 with 3:38 to play in the third quarter, Sewell scored four points to begin a 6-0 run that helped the Eagles extend their lead to 13 points.
Ashley Snow capped the burst with a basket in the paint with 1:07 left in the period and Broomfield led 32-19.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Silver Creek trailed 36-24 when Jones started a 9-0 run with a bank shot from the right side. She finished the stint with 2:58 to play by converting one of two free throws, drawing Silver Creek within six points, 38-32.
Broomfield, which shot only 33 percent from the field, then put the game away when Metoyer hit a pair of free throws, beginning a stretch in which the Eagles hit 10 of 13 free throws.
Broomfield, which led 24-15 at the break, ended the season with a 12-game winning streak and has a 54-2 record over the last two years.
