Look out for winter weather in the high country today as heavy snow falls in the central mountains.
The National Weather Service issued a snow advisory for parts of the Colorado mountains. Up to 7 inches was expected by this afternoon, with the heaviest amounts along and south of Interstate 70.
Drivers should expect snow-covered roads and periods of limited visibility, the weather service warns.
Vail’s forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of snow showers, with daytime accumulations of up to 5 inches and a high temperature of 28 degrees.
On and off snow is expected in portions of the high country through the weekend.
The westerly front that is dumping snow in the mountains will bring a chance of rain and snow showers to Denver this afternoon, the weather service said. Denver’s high temperature today should be about 48 degrees, and the chance for precipitation is 30 percent. Snow accumulations in Denver, if any, should be extremely light.
The sun should shine on Denver’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, and the high temperature is forecast to climb to about 48 degrees.
In Denver, there will be a slight chance — 10 percent — of snow Saturday night. On Sunday, mostly cloudy skies will bring a slight chance of rain to Denver, with a high temperature near 48 degrees, according to the weather service.
