PUEBLO, Colo.—Christa Loyd scored a game-high 19 points to lift No. 5-seeded Wray to a 52-42 upset victory over top-seeded Simla Friday in the girls Class 2A state semifinals at Massari Arena on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus.
Wray (20-6), which overall has won five girls basketball state crowns, lost last year in double overtime in the championship game. Wray’s last championship team was in 1985.
“Last year was tough to lose that way,” said Loyd, who also made three 3-pointers. “We just came out relaxed (Friday night) and this was just a great team win. Everybody stepped up for us.”
Simla dropped to 24-1.
The Eagles will play the winner of the Grand Valley-Rocky Ford semifinal game.
