PUEBLO, Colo.—Stacy Post scored 16 points, and Grand Valley missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Wray a 48-47 victory for the 2A state girls basketball championship Saturday.

With time running down, Grand Valley’s Kendall Babler launched a 3-pointer just past halfcourt.

“When she shot that ball, my heart skipped a beat,” Post said.

Babler’s shot hit high off the top of the backboard as time expired, giving the Eagles the state title at Massari Arena on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus.

A year ago, the Eagles lost 65-58 in double overtime to Limon in the Class 2A finals.

“This was a redeeming win for us,” Wray coach David Reed said. “We didn’t play our best game (Saturday) night, but the kids hung tough and got the job done.”

The Eagles (21-6) took home the sixth girls basketball state title in school history.

Grand Valley (19-5) moves up to Class 3A next year.
