ASPEN, Colo.—A man who jumped off a cliff while riding outside the Aspen Highlands ski area has died.
Aspen Skiing Co. says 22-year-old Wallace Westfeldt was part of a company-sponsored backcountry film shoot when the accident happened. Pitkin County coroner’s officials were awaiting autopsy results before determining the cause of death.
Sheriff’s deputy Renee Rayton says the Aspen-area resident was skiing or snowboarding with a small group when the accident happened Friday morning.
Another member of the group tried to resuscitate him. He died shortly after ski patrollers arrived.
Westfeldt was a competitive snowboarder. His father is Aspen Skiing Co. instructor Weems Westfeldt.
