COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—A man accused in a disturbance at a video store where his ex-girlfriend worked had argued with her before, allegedly about which gang their son would claim, police said.

Witnesses said a man knocked over a computer and a magazine stand at the store Saturday and yelled obscenities at the woman.

A police report says the man and woman have a 4-year-old son but split because they disagreed on how to raise their boy. When officer Daniel Swift asked the woman what she meant by that, she said that the two belong to different street gangs.

“They could not agree on which gang the baby would claim,” Swift said.

Joseph Manzanares, 19, pleaded guilty Tuesday to disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to a year of probation.
