A 36-year-old man killed in a motorcycle accident Tuesday had a lengthy record of traffic violations, according to state records.
William Joseph Hampton crashed after a State Patrol chase at South Simms Street and West Bowles Avenue just as Littleton schools were letting out.
Jefferson County Coroner Katherine Loughrey-Stemp, whose office identified Hampton today, said an autopsy has not yet been done.
According to the State Patrol, Hampton sped away from a trooper at South Kipling Street and U.S. 285 at about 2:30 p.m. A few miles away, the chase ended in the busy intersection when Hampton ran a red light and broadsided a white Chevy Suburban.
The motorcycle’s license plate was not registered to the bike, troopers said.
Hampton had been charged with several traffic-related offenses, including drunken driving in Englewood in November 2000, driving a car with a suspended license in 2002 and driving without a license in 2006.
