FOUNTAIN, Colo.—Fountain police closed northbound Interstate 25 near Pueblo for nearly two hours Monday while investigating a report of a possible terrorist threat. A Pueblo man believed to have made the threat was arrested for driving under the influence and other charges.
The Colorado State Patrol alerted Fountain officers at 2:50 a.m. to watch for a red Chevrolet Geo headed north from Pueblo. The driver, state police said, had called the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office claiming to have information about a terror attack planned against the U.S.
Fountain police spotted the car at 3:02 a.m., pulled it over and questioned the driver, Justin Daniel Quinn, 30.
Officers closed the northbound interstate at 4:20 a.m. after a police dog alerted them to the possible presence of explosives in the car. The Colorado Springs Metro Explosives Unit was requested to search the vehicle. No explosives were found, and the interstate reopened at 6:15 a.m.
Quinn was charged with driving under the influence, no proof of insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He was released to the custody of his father.
Fountain police said in a statement that Quinn’s threat “may have been a result of his being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
