Three men suspected of car-jacking a taxi early this morning in Denver and beating the driver were caught a short time later by Denver police who used a GPS device to find them.

Ronald Smith, 38; Adam Garcia, 35; and Stephen Killian, 39, are being held in the Denver County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery, eluding, and aggravated car theft.

The cab driver suffered minor injuries in the attack, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

The incident started at about 5 a.m. when three men got into a Yellow Taxi in north Denver, Jackson said.

One man beat the cab driver, and the cabbie was booted out of the vehicle at West 43rd Avenue and Federal Boulevard, Jackson said. He called police for help from a convenience store.

Police caught up to the taxi a short time later near East 18th Avenue and Washington Street. After a brief pursuit, one man jumped from the taxi and ran while the other two remained inside, Jackson said.

The man who bolted was caught just a few blocks away, Jackson said. All three are in custody.
