DENVER—The Colorado Supreme Court has ruled that Telluride can condemn nearly 600 acres outside its boundary to preserve it as open space.
The high court rejected arguments by the owner of the land, the San Miguel Valley Corp., which had appealed a lower court ruling.
The ruling was handed down Monday. An attorney for the corporation did not immediately return a call.
The land is one of the last large, undeveloped tracts around Telluride, a southwest Colorado ski resort town.
In a separate court case, a jury ruled last year the town must pay the corporation $50 million to buy the land.
The town had argued the land was worth $25 million.
