IRVING, Texas — Adam “Pacman” Jones can join the Cowboys for everything but the regular season — for now.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday he would decide by Sept. 1 whether to fully end the cornerback’s suspension, which wiped out the entire 2007 season when he was with the Titans. The Cowboys play their opener Sept. 7 in Cleveland.

“Commissioner Goodell told Jones that his continued participation in the NFL depends on demonstrating that he can conduct himself in a lawful and reliable manner,” the league said in a statement.

Jones, who has been arrested six times and has been involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention since being drafted in 2005, could be in action as soon as today, the team’s next organized practice.

Meanwhile, receiver Terrell Owens agreed to a four-year contract worth $34 million through 2011, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Police want to talk with Bills’ Lynch

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Police investigators want to talk to Marshawn Lynch after examining the Bills running back’s vehicle, which allegedly struck and injured a pedestrian during a hit-and-run accident last weekend.

Buffalo Police Department spokesman Michael DeGeorge wouldn’t go into specifics, but stressed no charges have been filed and added police are still attempting to determine who was inside the 2008 Porsche SUV when the accident occurred early Saturday morning. A female pedestrian, whom police have not identified, was treated and released from a hospital after being struck while crossing an intersection.

Footnotes.

• The Giants signed defensive end Renaldo Wynn, who played last year with the Saints.

• The Bears signed fourth-round draft pick Craig Steltz, a safety from LSU, to a four-year contract.

• The Redskins signed safety Stuart Schweigert, who started 42 games in four seasons with the Raiders.

• The Patriots signed offensive lineman Oliver Ross.
