A lightning strike yesterday afternoon started a fire on the roof of a house in Fort Collins.

A woman was at home at the 4900 block of Crest Road in the south part of town just after 12:30 p.m. when “she heard a loud ‘boom’ and then smelled smoke,” according to a news release from the Poudre Fire Authority.

She called 911 and got out of the house.

When fire crews got to the house, they found flames and fire on the roof of the one-story, wood-frame home.

The crews were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond the rood and attic, the authority said.

Estimated damage to the home is $4,000.
