ATLANTA — Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was held out of Sunday’s 6-3 loss to the Phillies because of a small tear in his right quadriceps, and he may miss one or two more games.

The Braves are off today and begin a 10-game road trip at Chicago against the Cubs on Tuesday. Jones said he won’t test the injury before Tuesday.

“I’ll see how it feels after the off day. . . . I’ll probably miss a day or two in Chicago,” said Jones, who leads the majors with a .420 batting average.

The A’s Mike Sweeney will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday and is expected to miss four to six weeks. The designated hitter and first baseman, who turns 35 next month, needs surgery to repair cartilage in the knee. He had right knee surgery last year.

• Rays closer Troy Percival is expected to throw a simulated game today or Tuesday and could be closing games by the end of the week.

• Center fielder Josh Hamilton and shortstop Michael Young were out of the Rangers’ lineup against the Rays.

Hamilton, who leads the AL in home runs and the majors in RBIs, was sidelined because of a viral infection. Young was out of the lineup for the second time in three games, this time because of a sore groin.

• Blue Jays outfielder Shannon Stewart was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle, and outfielder Joe Inglett was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.

• The Royals optioned right-hander Joel Peralta to Omaha and purchased the contract of right-hander Jeff Fulchino from the Triple-A team.

• The Tigers recalled left-hander Clay Rapada from Triple-A Toledo, where he was on a rehabilitation assignment.

• Twins second baseman Alexi Casilla was scratched from the lineup against the White Sox because of a sore lower back.
