The 2008 Colorado dog racing season will come to an abrupt end this month after the Colorado Racing Commission and the Colorado Greyhound Kennel Association could not agree on kennel contracts.

Races at Mile High Greyhound Park in Commerce City and Pueblo Greyhound Park will stop June 28. Mile High, which was scheduled to race five days a week through Sept. 1, will also stop its simulcast races and off-track betting for dogs.

The governing bodies said they will work with area kennels and adoption agencies to relocate the dogs.

“Greyhound welfare is our highest priority,” said Bruce Seymore, Mile High’s director of racing operations. “We will work with all groups to ensure that every dog is placed.”

Horse racing at Arapahoe Park in Aurora, along with its off-track betting, will continue as scheduled.

CU’s Marshall named to national soccer team.

University of Colorado soccer standout Nikki Marshall was named to the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team on Thursday and will travel with the team in qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Marshall, a junior-to-be, set CU scoring records as a freshman with 17 goals and three assists for 37 points. U.S. coach Tony DiCicco decided on the roster after a week of training in Park City, Utah. Qualifying begins Wednesday in Puebla, Mexico.

• The Buffaloes added five players to their roster for next season, including incoming freshmen Caroline Danneberg, a Cherry Creek High School graduate; Heidi Mayer, of Rocky Mountain; Elizabeth Musgrave, from Birmingham, Ala.; and Maggi Steury, from Carmel, Ind. CU also added Kelly Menachof, a junior transfer from the University of California. She is a graduate of Arapahoe High School.
