The Roaring Fork Valley is planning a party Saturday to celebrate completion of the last 5-1/4 mile section of the Rio Grande trail linking Aspen and Glenwood Springs.
“With the completion of this last section of trail, the Roaring Fork Valley now has 44 miles of continuous multiuse trail, completely protected from vehicular traffic,” the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority said in a news release.
The last leg connects Carbondale and the Thunder River Marketplace and was completed ahead of schedule.
On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carbondale park-n-Ride at Colorado 133 and Village Road, the authority is hosting a free barbecue and live music as part of the celebration. There will be an organized ride through the communities along the trail.
