A wildland fire in Park County has spread to more than 1,000 acres and about 100 homes have been evacuated.

The Nash Ranch fire started Thursday afternoon east of Guffey. About 5 percent of the fire is contained, said Linda Balough, a Park County spokeswoman.

Winds today in the area are steady at about 15 mph but gusting to 40 mph, Balough said.

Fire fighters swarmed into the area this morning, including “technical units,” she.

Air tankers were helping to battle the lightning-sparked blaze on Thursday, along with 125 firefighters. A shelter was set up at the local school in Guffey, and livestock will be taken to the Teller County Fairgrounds.

Firefighters also are battling a fire on 15 acres near Idaho Springs north of Echo Lake.

A downed power line caused a one-acre grassland fire in Boulder County on Thursday afternoon that was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
