CHICAGO — United Airlines, the world’s second-largest carrier, offered voluntary buyouts to ramp workers and customer-service employees to trim as many as 400 jobs as it cuts seating capacity because of record-high fuel costs.
The proposal includes severance payments and retiree travel benefits, the Chicago- based unit of UAL Corp. said Friday in a statement.
Those affected are members of the International Association of Machinists, which represents about 16,000 United ramp workers and reservations and customer-service agents.
