Weld County investigators have arrested a man suspected of shooting another to death Saturday night just east of Platteville.

Norberto Abundez, 42, of Fort Lupton was arrested at a relative’s home in Adams County at about 11 p.m.

Abundez is suspected of driving a van into the yard of the victim and shooting him with a rifle earlier in the evening.

Investigators believer Abundez thought the victim was sleeping with his wife, said Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez. “That’s the allegation.”

Authorities are not releasing the identity of the slain man until his next of kin are notified.

Abundez was arrested in February on an assault charge against the victim and a restraining order had been issued.

Abundez is in the Weld County Jail facing charges of first-degree homicide, felony menacing, possession of a firearm by a previous offender, violation of bail bond and violation of a restraining order. No bond has been set at this time.
