MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s health secretary says a team of health and agriculture officials has traveled to the United States to demand that Mexican tomatoes be cleared of any suspicion in a recent salmonella outbreak.
Jose Angel Cordova says the group will meet with U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials in Washington. Cordova’s comments were included in an FDA statement released Monday. A salmonella outbreak that began in April has affected more than 1,000 people in the United States. Mexico said last week that its tests found no salmonella in Mexican tomatoes.
