SYDNEY, Australia — Air safety authorities in Australia who are investigating why a section of the fuselage of a Qantas airliner burst open at 29,000 feet on Friday asked the airline on Sunday to inspect oxygen canisters carried aboard all of its 747s.

The request from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia is the latest indication that investigators suspect that an oxygen canister might have exploded and caused a large hole in the side of the Boeing 747-400 en route from Hong Kong to Melbourne, Australia.

The crew managed to fly the plane to Manila, Philippines, where it landed safely.
