BYERS, Colo.—Adams County Sheriff’s officials say a lightning-sparked wildfire burned 1,700 acres before it was put out.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Candi Baker says the fire that started at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday was contained before it threatened houses or motorists near Byers, about 45 miles east of Denver.

East of that fire in Washington County, dry lightning strikes also started a blaze that burned 800 acres. Washington County emergency manager Mike McCaleb says that fire began at about 1:30 p.m.
