Denver’s hot streak won’t go down in the record books without a fight, as temperatures sneaked above the 90-degree mark for a few minutes Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The reading at Denver International Airport kept alive the metro region’s string of days at or above 90 degrees.
Weather forecasters had expected the run to end Tuesday, with rain and cooler temperatures. The thermometer at the airport climbed to 91 at 2:43 p.m. just ahead of an airport thunderstorm that cooled the temperature to 65 degrees by 4 p.m.
Today’s forecast calls for 88 degrees, but don’t count the streak out yet, said Jim Kalina, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Boulder.
“It’s not out of the question,” he said of yet another scorcher.
Tuesday showed just how fast and unexpectedly temperatures can spike, he said.
Wetter, cooler temperatures are expected until the weekend.
