United Airlines will furlough 272 baggage handlers at Denver International Airport in September, the company said.

The layoffs are part of the 7,000 job cuts the company already has announced, spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said. High fuel prices are causing all airlines to cut back employment and operations.

Previously, United had informed 100 Denver baggage handlers, 50 customer-service representatives and 17 pilots that they will be let go. United is the biggest airline at DIA.
