DENVER—A woman who lost a pay-equity case before the Supreme Court will speak at the Democratic convention as party leaders try to bolster their appeal to women.

Democrats said Monday that Lilly Ledbetter, who sued Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., will speak on the convention’s second night, Aug. 26.

Ledbetter claimed she was the victim of sex discrimination because she was paid less than men in similar jobs. Goodyear said the reason was poor performance evaluations, not discrimination.

A jury sided with Ledbetter but the Supreme Court said she waited too long to sue.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the convention chairwoman, said electing Democrats could help reverse the decision.

“”There is a clear difference between the parties when it comes to pay equity,” she said.
