GOLDEN, Colo.—A former state legislative candidate who plead guilty to slapping his 16-year-old daughter has resigned from his school board post in Jefferson County.
Vince Chowdhury (CHOW’-dur-ee) said in a written statement Tuesday he made the decision because it was “in the best interest” of his family. The 48-year-old was defeated last week in the House District 22 Democratic primary.
He pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in July and admitted he slapped his 16-year-old daughter after she and his wife didn’t hear him honking to open the family’s garage door. Charges of harassment and contempt of court were dropped in exchange for his plea.
The Jefferson County School Board had asked Chowdhury to resign and he faced a recall election.
