Last week the rural background of Adams County Sheriff Doug Darr paid off in a big was for the “Cops Fighting Cancer” charity.
Darr was able to donate the $250 proceeds from his first-place finish in a charity beef show, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
The annual show at the Adams County Fair is a time for local public officials to compete. Some 16 to 18 participants show and stage a steer and answer questions about livestock and agriculture.
Darr, who was raised on a farm, worked with Tyler Turecek of Deer Trail and his calf.
The $250 charity prize was sponsored by the Colorado State University extension office and the Roper apparel and footwear company
Darr chose Cops Fighting Cancer “because cancer has touched so many lives,” he said in a statement.
Founded by Aurora Police Officer James Seneca in 2003, the group has helped more than 100 families.
Seneca said in a statement: “We sincerely appreciate Sheriff Darr’s continued support for Cops Fighting Cancer. We are honored that he selected our organization to receive the funds from the competition.
