CLINTON, Ark.—A man accused of driving from Colorado to kill his ex-wife in Clinton is facing a capital murder charge.
Prosecutor Marcus Vaden said Tuesday that Rodney Lee Jones was arrested Monday in the Denver suburb of Thornton after evidence and witness statements pointed to him as a suspect. On Tuesday, Jones waived extradition proceedings and is set for a hearing on Friday. Vaden said Jones would be returned to Arkansas.
Jones and Orzona Fischer were divorced in April. She since remarried and Jones moved to Colorado after the divorce.
Fischer was killed Friday by a shot fired through a window at the home she shared with her three young children and new husband. She was gunned down as she cut her new husband’s hair.
Vaden said he did not know whether it was Fischer or her new husband who was the target.
The prosecutor said Jones was the children’s father.
Vaden would not provide details about what may have prompted the violence.
“I know that there were some problems in the divorce,” Vaden said. “I don’t think he just flipped out. Obviously, driving from Denver down here … he knew what he did.”
