DENVER—Passengers flying on Frontier Airlines will soon have to pay $15 to check their first bag.

The fee will take effect for tickets sold starting Saturday for travel on or after Nov. 1.

Frontier has been charging travelers $25 for a second checked bag since June.

Several airlines are now charging fees for baggage to help cover rising fuel costs. Some have also trimmed their domestic schedules or imposed a fuel surcharge on frequent flier tickets.

Denver-based Frontier is also reducing aircraft fuel burn and using new flight planning computer software to track fuel and flights to save fuel.
