PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—U.S. Northern Command says it continues to coordinate the military’s response to Hurricane Ike.
NorthCom said it has helped evacuate medical patients from Corpus Christi and Beaumont and is providing three helicopters to the Texas public safety department.
Earlier this week, NorthCom announced it was establishing a search and rescue unit based at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Texas.
The hurricane is moving through the Gulf of Mexico toward Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city.
Northcom oversees the military’s homeland defense and supports civilian authorities.
