Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in a dragnet following the shooting of a man and a woman at North Federal Boulevard and 72nd Avenue in Westminster, authorities say.
The victims, whose identities have not been released, were transported to a nearby hospital. Their injuries were considered serious and possibly life threatening.
Michael Bohlen was arrested for investigation of attempted murder, said Investigator Wayne Read, spokesman for the Westminster Police Department.
The shooting happened at about 2:33 a.m. when a car pulled up beside another vehicle with three people inside. The suspect shot the man and woman, then drove off.
When police drove to the area of the shooting, they found two people injured, Read said.
Police spotted a car matching the description of a vehicle seen fleeing the area and a pursuit began, he said.
The suspect fled onto eastbound Interstate 76, Read said. The chase ended I-76 and Weld County Road 39, which is near Lochbuie.
A search involving numerous officers from Westminster and seven other law enforcement agencies ensued.
Members of the Weld County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team had a brief stand off with Bohlen before he surrendered at 7:45 a.m., he said.
