LAKEWOOD, Colo.—The Colorado State Patrol says alcohol and/or drugs are suspected as contributing factors in a wrong-way crash in Lakewood that left one woman dead.
Authorities say 24-year-old Kelsey J. Hays of Morrison, Colo., died in the crash that occurred about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 285.
CSP spokesman Trooper Gilbert Mares says the woman was driving a Mitsubishi Galant when she took a wrong ramp to get onto U.S. 285, and ended up heading south in the northbound lane. The Mitsubishi then collided head-on with a northbound Toyota Rav-4 SUV.
Hays was pronounced dead at the scene. The Toyota driver, 53-year-old Wynne A. Warren of Buena Vista, Colo., was taken to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood with moderate injuries.
Her condition is unknown.
