Bass Pro Shops will celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday with a variety of informational and fun activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its 7970 E. 49th Ave. store.
Formal events include a 10:30 a.m. program by Jim Cranmer, “Spoon-Fed Walleye.” He’ll be followed by Steve Gerber’s “Fall Trolling Techniques.” At 12:30 p.m., Don Skinner will deliver “Electronics and Fall Walleye,” followed by Randy Allenbaugh with “Fall Walleye Tactics.” A demonstration, “Raising a Pup for a Family Hunting Partner,” is scheduled at 2:30 p.m.
Day-long activities include a kids fishing pond, a DART hunting simulator and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s interactive display. For information, 720-385-3600.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will host a Tuesday seminar to help novice hunters prepare for the upcoming elk season. Agency experts will offer tips on various hunting techniques, along with a review of regulations. The 6-9 p.m. events at the DOW education building, 6060 Broadway, is free, but registration is required. Phone 303-291-7545.
B&C scoring.
Bass Pro Shops will offer free Boone & Crockett Club scoring for mule deer, elk, bear, mountain lion and whitetail deer at all 50 of its stores nationwide. Hunters can “green” score their own trophies by following guidelines at the B&C website, .
If unofficial measurements are near or above minimum, suggesting a record-book entry, it must be scored by a trained measurer such as those at Bass Pro. It costs $40 to submit an entry to B&C.
On the move.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife has transplanted a 2-year-old bull moose into the LaGarita Wilderness south of Gunnison, the first step in a program that will locate up to 30 moose into a remote part of game management unit 67 with excellent habitat.
A small population already exists at this location. The animals are being obtained through an exchange program with Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources, which desires to relocate animals from an area where an overpopulation of moose increasingly clashes with development.
