The Colorado State volleyball team, ranked No. 15, showed its muscle by sweeping No. 24 BYU 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) before 3,667 fans at Moby Arena on Saturday night.

It was the 21st straight win for CSU (10-1, 2-0 Mountain West) at Moby, matching a streak from 2001. The Rams’ defense was the key, holding the Cougars to a .077 hitting average, well below their .243 season average coming in. Tessa Nelson and Jacque Davisson each tallied five blocks.

• Senior Jacqueline Paul led the University of Denver with 11 kills on 18 chances and had four blocks as DU beat Georgia State 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-21) in the DU Invitational at Hamilton Gymnasium. In the nightcap, DU beat Southern Methodist 3-1 to win the tournament.

Senior Kerry Porter added 10 kills for the Pioneers (9-2), while Alexis Ninos had nine kills and 12 digs.

• No. 18 Kansas State (11-2, 1-1 Big 12) was too much for Colorado (7-4, 1-1), sweeping the Buffs 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-19) in Manhattan, Kan.

Amber Sutherland led CU with 10 kills and eight digs.

Lindstrom leads CGA Mid-Am.

Jon Lindstrom of Legacy Ridge Golf Course, who earlier this summer made the round of 16 at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, fired a 3-under-par 69 for a 5-under 139 total to take a three-stroke lead at the Colorado Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship at Columbine Country Club in Lakewood.

The 2006 state Mid-Am champion, Scott Mendelsohn of South Suburban, shot a 69 to move into second place at 142, one shot ahead of Jim Doidge of Pueblo Country Club, who turned in a second-round 73.

Two-time champion Steve Irwin (2003, 2005) of Lakewood CC shot his second even-par 72 and is five strokes back at 144, along with Alex Buecking, who shot a second-round 71 on his home course.
