LAKEWOOD — Parker Orms wrote “One Play” on either wrist before Saturday’s rematch with Dakota Ridge, a painful reminder of how close Wheat Ridge was to making the playoffs last year.
Orms needed just one play to turn the Class 4A South Metro League showdown: an 82-yard touchdown run to spark a 35-7 rout of the No. 6 Eagles, who beat the Farmers in Week 10 last season to deny them a playoff berth.
Orms dominated on both sides as he rolled up 238 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns, in addition to an assortment of big hits and tipped passes from his safety position. The Eagles couldn’t stop him, or get around him.
“The transition from junior to senior year is huge,” Orms said of his extra size and speed. “The whole team worked out. This last season we knew we weren’t big enough or fast enough.”
The Farmers (4-0, 3-0) started slowly but were energized after stopping the Eagles (2-2, 2-1) on fourth down at the Wheat Ridge 18 early in the second quarter. Orms took the next play to the house by sweeping right and making one cut and blowing through the secondary. Wheat Ridge forced a turnover on Dakota Ridge’s next drive, and Orms cashed it two plays later with a 21-yard cutback TD run.
“That’s what Parker gives those guys,” Eagles coach Ron Woitalewicz said. “He can change the game in one snap of the ball.”
The Eagles’ Cameron Pritchett passed for 158 yards but was intercepted twice by defensive back Eric Shannon.
“Holding them to seven,” Shannon said of what he was most proud of. “After last year, that game took us out of the playoffs. To hold them to that much was awesome.”
