DENVER—Denver Nuggets guard Chucky Atkins will miss six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee yesterday.

Atkins felt pain two weeks ago while playing pickup games, and an MRI on Monday revealed an operation was necessary.

The team said its orthopedic surgeon, Steve Traina, repaired torn cartilage and cleaned out loose bodies.

Atkins missed most of last season after surgery to repair a sports hernia.

He averaged 4.7 points and two assists in 24 games.
