PARKERSBURG, W.Va.—A coyote found wandering in Parkersburg has been spared from euthanasia.
Humane Society of Parkersburg Executive Director Maryann Hollis says the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center has agreed to take the animal, named Wiley the Coyote by animal shelter staff.
Hollis says she began looking for alternatives Monday after learning that the state Division of Natural Resources planned to euthanize Wiley.
She says the Colorado center is interested in using Wiley in its educational programs.
Humane officer Steven Whitehair captured Wiley last Friday while responding to a report of stray dog. He said someone may have tried to domesticate the coyote or it may have been separated from its pack.
