Runners, walkers and bikers will gather Saturday — the second anniversary of the Platte Canyon High School shooting — to remember and to raise money for school safety.

Seven girls were held hostage by a deranged gunman inside the Bailey classroom on Sept. 27, 2006. Six were able to escape while Emily Keyes, 16, a junior, was fatally shot by the gunman as SWAT officers stormed the room.

The “I Love U Guys” Foundation — named for the last text message she sent to her family — will donate money raised in Saturday’s Emily’s Parade and Emily’s 5K run to the National School Safety Collaborative.

Saturday’s events begin with the 8 a.m. registration for Emily’s Parade. Motorcyclists will leave Columbine High School at 10:30 a.m. for Platte Canyon High School. A $27-per bike donation is suggested.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office is hosting the 5K run. Registration, which is $15, is from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. near the school’s football field. The run begins at 10:30 a.m.
