GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. — No serious injuries are reported after a school bus carrying 27 students to Fruitvale Elementary School in Grand Junction collided with a Toyota traveling in the wrong lane.
Authorities say the accident happened early Tuesday when the driver of the car made a U-turn as the bus was pulling away from a stop.
The Toyota driver, 36-year-old Viridiana Ybarra-Rason of Clifton, was cited for driving without a valid license and for careless driving. She was unhurt, as were two children in her car.
The vehicle was totaled.
One child on the bus suffered an injured knee, and another had a hurt lip. The bus was damaged, but was able to be driven from the scene.
Bus operator First Student sent another bus to pick up the students and take them to school.
