DENVER—The Georgia-based company that runs the Colorado Lottery’s computer systems is apologizing for a glitch that prevented players with winning tickets from redeeming them.

Officials say an encryption problem with tickets during a two-hour period May 14th caused lottery computers to later show that winning tickets were non-winners.

The problem was first reported by Denver’s KMGH-TV.

Scientific Games International says it accepts full responsibility for the problem, which affected some 4,800 tickets.

Colorado Lottery director Jack Boehm says he’s embarrassed and upset because such glitches aren’t supposed to occur.

Lottery records show the winning ticket holders have since claimed their prizes.
