KANSAS CITY, Mo.—For the third week in a row, winless Kansas City is making a change in its starting quarterback.

Coach Herm Edwards said Wednesday that Damon Huard, the 12-year veteran backup, will get the nod against the unbeaten Denver Broncos. Tyler Thigpen, the former seventh-round pick from tiny Coastal Carolina who got his first NFL start last week, is headed back to the bench but may see action again before regular starter Brodie Croyle returns from a shoulder injury. That’s expected to be Oct. 19 against Tennessee.

Huard started against Oakland in Kansas City’s second game before being pulled early for Thigpen. Thigpen made his first NFL start last week at Atlanta and was intercepted three times in a 38-14 loss that stretched Kansas City’s overall losing streak to 12 games.
