COLORADO SPRINGS — Every Home for Christ, an evangelical ministry headquartered in Colorado Springs and active in about 100 countries, will begin construction Oct. 1 on a $2.3 million replica of Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall inside its Jericho Center for Global Evangelism.

The Watchman Wall will cover 2,500 square feet, one-20th the size of the original, a remnant of a Jewish temple built around 20 B.C. It will use 50 tons of stone from Israel, spokeswoman Bonnie Lingus said. The Colorado Springs replica, scheduled to open April 8, will front 13 prayer grottos and serve as a backdrop to a 300-seat auditorium. People can leave written prayers inside the wall, Lingus said, and those messages eventually will be taken to the original wall. Electa Draper, The Denver Post
