A tractor trailer loaded with dumpsters hit and killed an 89-year-old man standing alongside his pick-up truck on the shoulder of Interstate 70 in Arapahoe County today.
John S. McNichol, of Strassburg, was declared dead at the scene, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper David Hall.
McNichol was standing on the right shoulder between the eastbound lanes and a green older model Ford pick-up truck when he was hit, Hall said.
Jose Lona, 24, of Phoenix, was driving the Peterbilt tractor.
“It was a full flatbed carrying rolloff dumpsters,” Hall said.
Lona was uninjured.
The incident is under investigation.
Eastbound I-70, which was closed after the accident happened at about 3 p.m. from mile marker 328 to mile marker 334, has been reopened.
