GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Pacific storm front moving into western Colorado is expected to bring heavy snow to the mountains this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the western mountains above 9,000 feet through Sunday night. Forecasters say from 8 to 18 inches of snow could fall.

Strong winds could cause blowing and drifting snow. By Saturday evening, authorities closed a section of U.S. 34 because of snow and ice.

Mountains in southwest Colorado could from 6 to inches of snow.
