GOLDEN — Mail-in ballots should begin arriving in the next few days after Jefferson County put nearly 200,000 ballots in the mail Monday.

“We’ve had a high demand this year from voters who want to have a paper ballot delivered to them by mail,” said Jefferson County Clerk Pam Anderson. “It has been our goal to get those ballots to them as soon as possible, so we are pleased that we were able to drop off the bulk of our mail-in ballots this early.”

Voters who applied for a mail-in ballot for the Nov. 4 election before Sept. 24 should receive their ballot early this week. Ballots for voters who applied after Sept. 24 will be sent later this week. Voters can apply until Oct. 28 for a mail-in ballot to be delivered to their home.

Elections Deputy Josh Liss said that as of Monday morning — before registration for the general election was closed at 5 p.m. — there were requests for 202,236 mail-in ballots, or 70.5 percent of Jeffco’s 286,922 active voters and 55.4 percent of the 365,157 total registered voters.

Liss said voters were registering continuously Monday.

Voters may cast their mail-in ballots at any time, Anderson said, but Nov. 4 is the last day to vote.
