More than 25 KWGN-Channel 2 staffers lost their jobs Tuesday in preparation for the station’s announced merger with KDVR-Channel 31.
News director Carl Bilek reportedly was terminated immediately.
KWGN chief financial officer Dennis O’Brien had “no comment” regarding the number of staff terminated.
A long, distinguished run for Denver TV anchor Ernie Bjorkman may be over soon. “I was told that my last day will be Dec. 31st,” Bjorkman said by e-mail, “so that’s when I will end my employment with Tribune and Ch. 2. If nothing else opens up, I presume it will be my last day on Denver television after 26 years.” Joanne Ostrow, The Denver Post
